Shishan is located at the 104.2 K spot on New Central Cross-island Highway, Provincial Highway 18. It overlooks the Jade Mountains and the extending ridges. It also provides an opportunity to observe wildlife at close range, especially that Formosan rock macaque is the star of Shishan. Shishan Service Station is a water filling station for the railway system built back in the logging era. It is now used as a headquarters for volunteers. There is a Yushan National Park boundary marker at the 103.9 K spot nearby, which has become one of the tourist attractions in the area.

Due to feeding by tourists over the years, Formosan macaque lives in Shishan have changed their behaviors and are used to grabbing and plastic bags from tourists. Please roll up your car windows before getting out of the car. Please do not bring food with you, and pay attention to the movements of the macaques around at all times.

The Formosan macaque has sufficient food in Tataka. Human food may cause them to become unhealthy, change behaviors, and affect the natural reproduction of the entire population. Please do not feed any wild animals. Those who violate the National Park Law will be punished.
