Walami

Introduction

Open

Located 13.6 kilometers away from the trailhead, Walami is on a small terrace. The elevation is about 1,060 meters. A Japanese police station was established here in 1920, along with guest houses, education centers, medical centers, and other buildings. They were all removed in 1944. At the time, Walami was an important post on the eastern section of the Batongguan Traversing Trail. It was a one-day walk from Yuli to Walami, and Japanese policemen or students who needed to climb mountains would spend the night here. This place is the ending point of the Walami Ecological Trail in Yushan National Park. The Administrative Office has set up mountain cabins and campsites to serve as a comfortable and safe rest stop for mountain hikers. The hiking trail suitable for regular visitors ends here. Beyond this point is an inaccessible area of deep mountains and forests leading to the Central Mountain Range. Those who do not have enough mountaineering experience should not go into the forests.

◎The access to Walami Trail beyond Jiaxin requires entry permits.
