“Hike Smart Taiwan Service” integrates hiking applications and provides a one-stop convenient service.
The Executive Yuan promotes the Open Mountain and Salute to Taiwan's Mountains. The beauty of Taiwan’s mountains attracts people to the mountains. Yushan National Park is renowned for Yushan, the tallest mountain in Taiwan. It is on the bucket list for Taiwanese for years. Yushan provides a hiking journey with mental and physical healing, and acts as the core of ecological protection in Taiwan, and an important habitat for popular species such as Formosan black bear, Formosan yellow-throated marten, and Alisan's salamander. Therefore, Yushan National Park Management Office welcomes everyone to climb Yushan, protect the mountains, submit applications before climbing, do enough physical training and climbing, and avoid crowding in the mountains.
Hike Smart Taiwan Service, set up by the National Park Service, MOI, will start to provide the service for national park entry applications on September 2, 2024 (system transfer will be performed from 10 AM to 5 PM). It integrates the services for hiking permits regarding ecological protected areas, such as national parks, national trails, natural protected areas, nature conservation areas and game reserves in Taiwan. The website offers convenient application services for climbers. For any suggestion or question, please call the hotline of the application acceptance departments on the website and email the customer service center. 
Fair draw for Paiyun Lodge, a waiting list is available
Paiyun Lodge is popular for Yushan climbers, and its application is also available on Hike Smart Taiwan Service. Climbers may enter the drawing for Paiyun Lodge two to one months before check-in. It is a fair draw, hoping that each climber can be blessed by the God of Luck in Yushan, blessing climbers to climb safely and reach the peak successfully. Keep your chin up, climbers, if you didn’t win the draw. Climbers, may submit the application online again after the drawing time, and create a new team name to register on the waiting list. If the team who won the draw cancels, climbers on the waiting list can get the spot, and that’s how climbers luckily get the spot. For instance, the drawing time is 3 to 4 PM on the drawing day. The waiting list will be available on 4 PM. Refer to the latest announcement on the website for the drawing schedule.
“Hike Smart Taiwan Service” offers paperless applications. Climbers get the entry permit before climbing Yushan (and apply for Paiyun Lodge at the same time). The electronic file is available for download and can be saved in the mobile device for reference, without a printed copy. On the entry date, climbers must bring their ID to Paiyun Visitor Center to scan the ID to check-in before climbing. After the climbers return home safely, they may report that they left the Park on the website. The entire process from verification, check-in to reporting is paperless work. Payment and refund of Paiyun Lodge is available online. There are about over 50 thousand climbers to Yushan, saving at least 50 thousand pieces of paper. We encourage all climbers to support the carbon reduction and net-zero transition action with us.
Advanced application for foreigners is available for foreigners to confirm their trip in advance. This enhances international visibility of Yushan.
Yushan is the holy mountain for Taiwanese and the top choice for foreign climbers. While providing application services to nationals, 24 spots are available per day from Sunday to Thursday (excluding Friday, Saturday and national holidays, the time with more applications submitted by nationals). The application service for foreign tourists is available four months to 35 days before the check-in date. This is convenient for foreign tourists to confirm their trip, arrange flight, transportation and accommodation in advance. It expected that Yushan can become world renowned with more foreign tourists. With convenient, friendly services, and the rich ecological environment and the beauty of mountains, foreign tourists can enjoy a more abundant traveling experience and a greater traveling quality.
