The Formosan Reeve’s Muntjac has a body length of approximately 40~70cm, tail length at 4~10cm and its maximum weight can reach 12kg. The body hair is colored in clay brown with dark brown color at the back. The youngsters have white spots on their bodies. The females have shield-shaped black spots on their head and the males have a Y-shaped black spot on their head. There are also short yellow horns on the male’s head.
The Formosan Reeve’s Muntjac distributes in mountains of low-high altitude over the Taiwan main island, but mainly between medium-low altitude. The species can be seen possibly in undeveloped forests and it does not move in herds; both the male and female have a home range of their own. The animal is diurnal and herbivorous by eating tender plant leaves and shoots mostly.
