Yushan National Park is located within the subtropical climate zone of Taiwan. However, due to the large altitudinal variation, from 300 meters to 3952 meters, the temperature drops significantly. The climate becomes that of the temperate and frigid zones. Basing upon data collected from the Yushan Weather Station and Alishan Weather Station of the Central Weather Bureau, relevant weather information are as followed:
Temperature:
- Annual average temperature:
- Over 3500 meters in elevation, the annual average temperature is 5 degree Celsius.
- At 2500 meters, the annual average is 10 degree Celsius.
- Over 3500 meters in elevation:
- January and February, the average temperature is below 0.
- March, November, December, the average temperature is below 5 degree Celsius.
- Areas around 2500 meters in elevation, the summers are cool.
Precipitation:Annual rainfall averages around 3600mm. There are 140 days of rain, mostly between May to August. The plum rain season is from May to the beginning of June. June, July and August are typhoon and thunderstorm season.
Humidity:Due to the high elevation of the central Yushan area, the annual average humidity is around 80%; where as the rest of the areas are above 85%.
