When the trail was first named more than 30 years ago, it was surrounded by the Yushan Cane landscape after the fire. After decades of ecological transformation, the forests on the two sides of the trail have been dominated by pine trees and Yushan Cane, offering great tree shades. Enter from the entrance next to Bunun Literature Square of Tataka Visitor Center. The stairs going up right at the beginning are quite challenging. Two observation decks have been set up along the way for visitors to take a short break. The trail after the second observation deck becomes gentler. The stroll under the forest gets cooler and more comfortable.

Dongpu Prairie, Linzhi Mountain, Black Forest, Lulin Mountain, and Lulin Qianshan are connected by Nanxi and Yushan forest trail, forming a network of trails.
