The Gigantic Hemlock is located at the intersection of the 1.4 K spot of Nanxi Trail and Yushan Trail. It is the only passage that leads to the Jade trailhead. It is at an elevation of 2,740 meters and about 600 years old. The tree looks like a giant green umbrella towering into the sky. It is an important landmark on Tataka Trail. It has become a natural habitat for epiphytes such as usnea, moss, and ferns. Woody plants such as wheel trees, Yushan rhododendron and Taiwan red pine grow here too.

The Ecotoilet next to the Gigantic Hemlock is the only one in the area. Visitors can use the toilet before heading into Lizhi Mountain and the Jade trailhead.
