Yushan National Park, through long-term ecological monitoring, is known to have a stable Formosan black bear (Ursus thibetanus formosanus) population, making it an important conservation area for this endangered species. Villages near the park often report black bear sightings around settlements and cultivated lands. In 2023, there were seven Formosan black bear rescue incidents in the Hualien-Taitung area, four of which occurred near the eastern park. This highlights the need to establish safe distances and friendly interactions between humans and bears. This project aims to enhance the response capabilities of the Yushan National Park Headquarters, local partners, relevant agencies, and nearby residents through professional training, educational outreach, and the development of rescue mechanisms. Key activities include frontline rescue training, community and school education, creating educational materials, and establishing a response cooperation mechanism for Formosan black bear rescues. The goal is to improve rescue efficiency, increase local support for conservation, and strengthen the conservation network for the Formosan black bear.
